Italian Baroque bureau cabinet
Verona first half of the 18th century, softwood cabinet a trois corps, decorated throughout with crossbanding and fillets in olive and plantain wood, the lower section with ebonised plinth and three drawers, the writing section with writing surface and fitted interior, the upper section with two doors with mirrors and ebonised cornice, 224 x 96.5 x 57 cm, professionally restored condition. (DOC) This is a typical piece from the Verona region, its proportions being the source of its charm and its slim and delicate form expressing both reserve and elegance. The interior is veneered only in plantain wood and the exterior is defined by the use of olive. Both these woods are typical of Italian workmanship.
